About this blog

This blog aims to promote contact with nature in and around Nottingham.  There are a surprising number of possibilities for such contact in and near all built-up areas, and Nottingham is particularly well-served here.  As a long-term resident, it’s one of the things that keep me grounded amidst the hassles of city life.  This blog will celebrate and encourage nature in Nottingham, and be an advocate for a greener, wilder city.

As well as my own blog posts, I’ll be featuring links to other blogs and websites from local wildlife and green organisations, and hope to include a variety of contributions from readers – please get involved.

As well as urban nature reserves and the countryside around the city, there is a multitude of parks, gardens, allotments, roadsides, “wastelands”, and forgotten little corners where the wild can creep in.  Amidst all the complex infrastructure of our urban environment, the natural world is never too far away…..

  1. I completely agree that we should never close our eyes to the natural world, even in the city. I’m from the U.K. and grew up in the suburbs but the magic of seeing a fox cross the road at midnight, or watching little birds feeding in the garden is never lost on me.
